Alocasia thai amazonica pink variegated

Alocasia Thai Amazonica — Alocasia 'Amazonica'

Despite what the name suggests, Alocasia 'Amazonica' has no connection to the Amazon rainforest. The name traces back to Amazon Nursery, a Florida-based nursery run by hybridizer Salvadore Mauro, where this cross was first created in the 1950s. By crossing Alocasia sanderiana with Alocasia longiloba 'Watsoniana', Mauro produced one of the most influential hybrids in the history of the genus — the direct ancestor of Alocasia 'Polly', 'Loco', 'Venom', and 'Balloon Heart'.

The Thai form is known for its compact growth habit, dark glossy foliage, and sharply defined white to silver venation. A striking and relatively accessible expression of one of the most storied lineages in Alocasia.
